I just read over on Lorelle’s blog that WordPress turns 4 today. Congrats to Matt Mullenwag and everyone else on the WordPress team - keep up the great work!
Welcome to The Open WordPress Community
The Open WordPress Community is a group of WordPress enthusiasts providing free themes and plugins for WordPress. WordPress is more than just a blogging platform, it is a powerful Content Management System (CMS) that can be adapated to power nearly any type of website.
The main goal of The Open WordPress Community is to provide one central place where WordPress enthusiasts can meet to share their free WordPress themes and plugins, and to discuss all things WordPress related.
Well, we’ve barely gotten started, and we’ve already moved. Although I never heard anything officially, I was told by several people that WordPress owns a trademark for that name and doesn’t allow sites to use the WordPress name in their domain, as the old site did.
So now we’ve moved to a new home at OpenWP.org. We’re still the same great site, and are hoping to become the community for WordPress enthusiasts. All the user accounts have been transfered over, so if you’ve already registered, your username/password should keep on working. Please let us know if you find any problems or references to the old domain.
Help us grow our community! Tell all your friends to come register and start contributing to the forums. We’ll soon add the ability for users to upload their themes and plugins, and after that, the sky is the limit!
Get ready for another update! WordPress 2.1 is set for release tomorrow. For a nice overview of what to expect in the new version, check out Technosailor’s post 10 things you should know about WordPress 2.1.
Here are a few of the highlights:
- Auto-saving of drafts
- Better image upload handling
- Native WordPress migration functionality
- New and improved visual editor interface
- Merging of links and categories
- New privacy features
Update: WordPress 2.1, code-named “Ella” has now been officially released. Check out the announcement on the WordPress blog.
Open WordPress aims to be an online community for WordPress developers. Soon you will be able to share custom themes and plugins you have created, and discuss WordPress tips and tricks with other developers.
Yes, the site looks a little plain right now. One of the aims is to hold a design contest where the winning design will be used as the theme for this site.
Stay tuned, more details to come!
Update: We’ve now got the forum up - it’s using Vanilla, which was pretty simple to integrate with WordPress. So you’re WordPress username/password should work on the forums too. Go check it out and start talking!
